Last lap Phelps quickest on first day of Donington Park GB4 Media Day test

19 March 2025

Elite Motorsport’s Isaac Phelps recorded the fastest lap in the final moments of session four to end the first GB4 Media Day test on top at Donington Park.

In the last seconds of the day, and with the top-three at that point separated by less than a tenth of a second, Phelps found an extra couple of tenths to pip Douglas Motorsport’s Luke Hilton to the quickest time of the day, courtesy of his 1m28.395s lap time.

That was enough to put him 0.140s clear of the field, with Hilton his nearest challenger having topped session three with a 1m28.535s, fractionally better that his session four effort.

Hilton was 0.069s clear of Phelps’ teammate Alex Kattoulas, with the top-three covered by little over two tenths of a second.

Newly-announced Alex O’Grady, on his first day of GB4 action, was an impressive fourth quickest overall for KMR Sport, 0.038s away from the top-three and 0.010s ahead of FIA Formula 2 race-winner and 2021 GB3 champion Zak O’Sullivan, who was gathering vital data for Pace Performance.

The third Elite car of Ary Bansal completed the top-six, which was split by less than three tenths of a second.

Series returnee Jack Taylor was the lead Fortec runner in seventh, only 0.355s away from top spot and 0.204s clear of Graham Brunton Racing’s Mayer Deonarine.

Dan Guinchard was another to gain a first taste of GB4 with Hillspeed, and was ninth quickest and 0.716s away from Phelps’ overall best, despite being away from a racing cockpit for a year.

Arden’s Leon Wilson completed the top-10, which was covered by 0.730s. A total of 20 drivers participated in today’s test, with Dayton Coulthard in 11th also within a second of the day’s top time.

Testing resumes at Donington Park tomorrow with four more sessions on the Grand Prix circuit.
