Isaac Phelps, Jack Taylor and Ary Bansal were the top-three drivers in the first qualifying session of the season at Donington Park. Here's how the lead trio reacted after the session.
Double pole, Isaac Phelps, Elite Motorsport:
"It's pretty good for the first weekend! I'm really looking forward to the races, I've made it hard for myself in the reverse grid one at the end but I'm looking forward to some action packed racing at the front.
"I think I put it together quite well on my two laps, my laps were within half a tenth of each other and I did the best I could with the peak of the tyre and got some really clean laps.
"I think I was pretty confident that we'd have a chance of pole, but you could never be sure with how fast the other drivers would be, they could have been hiding their pace in testing or something. Now I know that we seem to be the fastest right now, and I have good confidence going into the races.
"I think I'll be nervous at the start of the races, but I think that's a good thing because nerves always strive you to do better. I think it's really good to be starting from pole in my first single-seater race.
"I might have to give the prize money to my parents because I had to get some more sim equipment before this because something broke, so I might have to give it to them to pay them back!"
Second, Jack Taylor, Fortec Motorsport:
"I'm very happy, it's a very close field so if you blink incorrectly you're suddenly down the field! I'm quite glad to be in P2 and there for both races.
"I feel I've definitely improved in the off-season, I've been doing a lot of sim racing and stuff, trying to improve my techniques, things like that. This year, with Fortec again obviously, we have a good crew and I think that's a big help as well.
"I'm very excited for the race, it's my first time on the front row when it's not a reverse grid race so I'm very excited to see how it goes. I'm aiming for a podium or maybe even a win from here. It will be difficult as the field is so close, but there's going to be some good racing and I hope to come out on top, or on the podium."
Third, Ary Bansal, Elite Motorsport:
"I feel quite good about third place, I think there was more time on the table to find, but I feel good about being in the top-three. I can work from there in the race.
"In general, things are looking quite good, and I'm very confident about my pace. I have to make sure that no mistakes are made, one small mistake you might be knocked out of the top-10.
"I've done some practice starts and I'm getting to grips with the start procedure as it's slightly different to the F4 car I'm used to. I think the podium is definitely a target for us."
