Elite Motorsport’s Ary Bansal register the fastest lap of the day in the final Friday GB4 test session at Donington Park, with the leading four drivers covered by less than a tenth of a second at the end of the two days.
Times tumbled in the final stages of the 30-minute session, the sixth held in the build-up to the event, with Isaac Phelps and Luke Hilton briefly going top in the last five minutes.
But it was Bansal’s effort of 1m28.305s which proved the quickest of the day, putting him 0.017s clear of Hillspeed’s Dan Guinchard, who was another late improver.
After two spells at the top, Bansal’s teammate Phelps had to settle for the third quickest time, 0.009s further back, and 0.068s ahead of Douglas Motorsport’s Hilton, the top-four separated by 0.094 seconds.
Arden’s Leon Wilson was the fifth quickest on Friday, courtesy of his session one effort, which put him 0.086s in arrears and 0.066s ahead of Guinchard’s teammate Leandro Juncos, who enjoyed his best session of the day in the afternoon.
Douglas Motorsport’s Enzo Hallman was the final driver in the top-seven to record his best time in the final session, 0.362s behind Bansal.
Fortec duo Thomas Ingram Hill and Jack Taylor were next up in eighth and ninth courtesy of their session one and two times respectively, with Taylor topping the times in that particular test.
Day one’s fastest driver, Alex Kattoulas, completed Friday’s top-10, which was covered by just over half a second. As with the first two sessions of the day, the pack closed up even more in session three, with the top-19 drivers covered by less than a second.
Kattoulas’ effort of 1m28.098s, set in Thursday’s first session, remained the fastest of the two days. In all, five different drivers topped times in pre-event testing, with Bansal leading two sessions, and Kattoulas, Phelps, Guinchard, and Taylor topping one each.
