The stats that made Linus Granfors a GB4 champion

10 October 2024

Fortec’s Linus Granfors became GB4's third champion this year, with a superb season-long performance where he demonstrated supreme outright speed and maturity beyond his years. But what were the numbers behind the Swede’s title triumph? Let’s find out…

Podiums – 10
To win the championship, drivers need to score big and do so often, and this was something Granfors excelled at. The 16-year-old was on the podium in 10 of this year’s 20 races, a hit rate of exactly 50%. The only event where he didn’t take home a trophy was at Snetterton, but aside from that he was in the top-three at every circuit. A triple podium at the Brands Hatch season finale ensured he took the title with fine style. Only Alisha Palmowski, the championship runner-up, scored more podiums (11) throughout the season.

Wins – six
Regular wins ensured Granfors’ title challenge never lost momentum, but it was his treble win across the first two weekends that laid the foundations. His first was a spectacular last to first effort at Oulton Park, before a double at Silverstone, perhaps his favourite circuit on the calendar. Further wins came at Donington Park, and then on the return visits to Silverstone and Donington later in the summer. His tally of six was two more than any other driver, with Lucas Blakeley his nearest rival with four.

Laps led – 47
If Granfors led a race, he won it! In all, he led 47 of this year’s 200 racing laps, almost a quarter of the 2024 tally, though Blakeley was his nearest rival here, leading just two less.

Pole positions – five
Granfors’ excellent qualifying performances ensured he started at the front of the field more than any other driver too. His six pole positions, all doubles, came at Donington Park, Silverstone and then at Brands Hatch, with Finn Harrison his nearest rival with four poles, also doubles, at Silverstone and Donington Park.

Highest weekend score – 76
Granfors earned big scores at every race event this year, and one of only two drivers to score above 70 points at three events. His season best score of 76 was hit twice at Silverstone and at the Brands Hatch finale, while also scoring 70 at the first Silverstone event. Blakeley was the only other driver to match that feat, while Alisha Palmowski’s score of 95 at Snetterton was the highest of the season.

Points for places gained in reverse grid races – 30
While big scores in conventional races are important, so too is keeping things clean in the hectic reverse grid contests. But Granfors claimed a total of 30 points throughout the season just for places gained in the event finales, with only Palmowski earning more throughout the year with 33.
