Granfors smashes Silverstone lap record on way to Sunoco Fastest Driver of the Weekend Award

Fortec Motorsports’ Linus Granfors was the driver to beat as GB4 thrilled at Silverstone last weekend.

The Swedish driver dominated pre-event testing, setting the fastest time in five of the six pre-event sessions, however he was beaten to pole position by a last gasp effort by Finn Harrison.

That meant the 16-year-old had to battle his way past Harrison in both races, with thrilling racing the result. Once he got past though, he was able to march into the distance, winning both races by over seven seconds.

It comes as no surprise therefore, that Granfors claimed the Sunoco Fastest Driver of the Weekend Award in the process, with his 2m00.896s effort in race one. That lap proved just under three tenths of a second faster than the previous GB4 lap record, established by Tom Mills last year.

Granfors is the second winner of the award this year, with KMR Sport’s Harry Burgoyne earning the prize at Oulton Park.

“It’s been a great weekend,” said Granfors. “I had a good feeling coming to Silverstone after pacing testing there before, and it proved well-founded. The pace was great in both the wet and dry, and winning both races here is obviously a dream result.”
