Granfors breaks Silverstone qualifying lap record to take double pole

27 July 2024

Fortec Motorsport's Linus Granfors broke the GB4 qualifying lap record twice on his way to a double pole position at Silverstone this morning.

As in testing, the Swedish driver led the way throughout the session, and first broke the lap record as he crossed the line with just a few seconds remaining on the clock in the 15-minute session, setting a 2m00.735s.

Having already guaranteed pole, with no time for the other runners to start another lap, with the exception of Alisha Palmowski, Granfors kept his foot down and found two more tenths on his final lap, earning his third and fourth poles with a margin of almost four tenths to the rest of the field.

KMR Sport's Lucas Blakeley replicated his Snetterton form by taking second place for both races one and two, ahead of Graham Brunton Racing's Callum Baxter in third, his best qualifying result of the season.

Elite's Palmowski had to settle for fourth, a tenth of a second behind the Canadian driver and 0.178s ahead of KMR Sport's championship leader Harry Burgoyne.

Fox Motorsport's Branden Templeton was sixth, 0.040s away from Burgoyne and 0.052s ahead of Arden's Leon Wilson.

Eighth place for Fortec's Jack Taylor is his best qualifying of the season, just 0.018s from seventh, and 0.190s ahead of Elite's Finn Harrison, with Fox Motorsport's Megan Bruce completing the top-10, her first qualifying top-10 of the year.

Series newcomer Ava Dobson was 13th fastest in her first qualifying session for VRD Racing.

For the race two grid, Granfors was 0.443s ahead of Blakeley, with Palmowski third ahead of Baxter. Burgyone and Templeton complete the top-six, with Taylor, Harrison, Wilson and Bruce completing the top-10.
