Formula 1 Esports World Champion Lucas Blakeley will return to the GB4 Championship with KMR Sport at the Donington Park season finale on 21-22 October.
The 22-year-old Scotsman made his slicks and wings debut in the series with the team at Snetterton in June, where he impressed by posting the fourth fastest time in qualifying, before going on to record two seventh place finishes.
Since then, he’s continued to make appearances in the National Formula Ford Championship, taking a victory at Brands Hatch in August, and then a podium during the final meeting of the season at Silverstone in September. Last year’s Scottish Formula Ford runner-up had also competed in Formula Ford events with the team earlier this year prior to his GB4 debut.
Blakeley won last year’s F1 Esports Pro Drivers’ Championship for McLaren Shadow, confirming him as one of the world’s leading digital competitors. That success gave him the opportunity to compete at the Race of Champions in Sweden for a second time earlier this year, where he won the eROC title. On those two opportunities, Blakeley made headlines by beating F1 stars Valtteri Bottas, Mika Hakkinen and Sebastian Vettel in real life head-to-head contests.
Lucas Blakeley said: “I’m super grateful to be back racing in GB4 this year, and want to say a massive thank you to KMR Sport for the support and for helping create this opportunity. I didn’t know if I’d ever get behind the wheel of one of these cars again so I’m going to enjoy every lap.
“Donington Park looks like a whole load of fun, so I can’t wait to get on track and to start working on my driving, building into the weekend and seeing what it will bring.”
Team Principal Kevin Mills said: "It's great to have Lucas back with the team for the final GB4 round of the year. I think everyone was impressed with what he did back at Snetterton, to put the car fourth on the grid after just a few hours of testing a day or two before was pretty special, considering he hadn't driven a slicks and wings car before then. He'll have more preparation this time around, so hopefully he can apply what he already knows and build on it as the event progresses."
