GB4 race 2: Webster claims second Donington victory to secure championship runner-up spot

22 October 2023

Evans GP’s Cooper Webster claimed his second GB4 Championship win of the year, and his fourth of the season, as he secured second place in the driver’s championship standings.

Webster survived two safety car restarts, and took the chequered flag clear of Fortec’s Colin Queen and Fox Motorsport’s Liam McNeilly, who cemented third place in the standings.

Series newcomer Finn Harrison was fourth in just his second single-seater race for Elite Motorsport ahead of KMR's Lucas Blakeley, with Graham Brunton Racing's Harry Burgoyne sixth.

Elite's second newcomer Theo Micouris claimed seventh place ahead of Fortec's front wing-less Aditya Kulkarni, with Burgoyne's teammate Sebastian Murray and privateer Dylan Hotchin completing the top-10.

The race was red flagged though on lap eight after a big crash for Zack Ping, who escaped unharmed.

Webster made a strong start to lead the pack to Redgate, while Queen and Blakeley elevated themselves into the top-three, as the latter replicated his strong start from yesterday. The race was neutralised on lap one however, with Sid Smith and Jack Clifford in the gravel after separate incidents.

The race resumed a couple of laps later, but was immediately neutralised again after newcomer Lexie Belk and Evans GP's Thomas Lee made contact at Redgate, with Lee stranded in the gravel. Before that though, there'd been time for McNeilly and Harrison to pass Blakeley, who fell to fifth ahead of Ping.

Action got back underway again on lap six, with Ping and Blakeley squabbling for fifth place, but Ping's big accident exiting McLeans necessitated a red flag and an early conclusion to the contest, though the American thankfully extricated himself from the heavily damaged car. The final race of the weekend, and the season, is due to start at 17.01.
