KMR Sport’s championship leader Tom Mills broke the GB4 lap record at Silverstone last weekend, as the British youngster claimed the Sunoco Fastest Driver of the Weekend Award.
Mills’ fastest lap of 2m01.240s came in Sunday morning’s encounter, and was over a second quicker than the previous record, established last year by reigning champion Nikolas Taylor.
Having also claimed both pole positions at the home of the British Grand Prix, and won one of the two races held across the weekend, Mills’ results and pace has given him a decent 37-point margin at the top of the standings in his sophomore campaign.
“Silverstone has always been a bit of a bogey track for us, but we really hit the nail on the head this year” Mills said. “Massive thanks to the team, they’ve done a fantastic job, the car is brilliant.
“I’ve had all the pole positions, two wins and my reverse grid races have been good. It’s been a fantastic start, the car the team has given me has been mega, it’s a step above what we had last year and it’s really showing.”
