The second race of the GB4 Championship at Snetterton saw Alex Walker claim his first victory ahead of Kevin Mills Racing’s Tom Mills, with Jarrod Waberski holding on to third at the chequered flag. Here’s how each driver reacted at the end of the race.
Winner, Alex Walker – Elite Motorsport:
“Obviously that was really good, it was a stressful race as I had Tom right behind me the whole time, but I had a feeling that once I got through turn one that we were going to be alright as long as I was consistent. The car felt good, so thanks to everyone at Elite, and I’m looking forward to race three where it’s going to be a reverse grid.
“This is a great feeling, hopefully we can carry this through to the rest of the season. The start was really important, I worked really hard on the tyres on the formation lap as we put new tyres on the left hand side. That was where I struggled on the first few laps, but once we got into a bit of a rhythm we were away and home."
Second, Tom Mills – Kevin Mills Racing:
“I was trying to put Alex under as much pressure as possible, but once you get within a few car lengths it’s a bit harder with the dirty air. I overworked the tyres a little bit behind him, so I backed off a bit at the end. But a brilliant race and fantastic to get two podiums, the reverse grid race is next, who knows how far up I can get!
“I’m really proud of the team, we’ve all worked so hard in making the step up from Formula Ford. To have two cars on the podium against teams like Fortec and Elite is amazing, and I couldn’t be happier for us.”
Third, Jarrod Waberski – Kevin Mills Racing:
“We needed a whole different warm-up procedure because what I’m used to at home is completely different to this. But we managed to do a lot better today and got the procedures done better and managed to hold on to third at the end, so I’m very chuffed, with this being my second race in the UK.”
