Newly-crowned Ultimate Karting Champion Louis Harvey will get behind the wheel of a GB4 car next month with the Scorpio Motorsport team, after winning the Senior Rotax category.
The 18-year-old claimed the title at the Three Sisters Circuit earlier this month, having taken four wins and eight additional podium finishes throughout the UKC campaign.
Harvey will now prepare for his first taste of single-seaters with the GB4 test, likely to be held at MSV’s Bedford Autodrome complex.
Harvey said: “Winning the Ultimate Karting Championship was fantastic, especially after the recent announcement that the prize was a test in a GB4 car.
“Since passing my ARDS, I have been looking for an opportunity to test in single-seaters, in the hope of being able to impress the right people or team and attract the sponsorship to support a race season.
“I am very much looking forward to meeting the Scorpio team and putting my skills, and the car, to the test.”
Scorpio Motorsport, which operates the Rossoverde Racing entry of Christian Lester, offered the prize test to the UKC and took the Tatuus F4-T014 car to display at Three Sisters during the series finale, and is aiming to expand its GB4 involvement next season.
The team, which won the Formula Renault Championship in 2009, and has a long history of success in single-seater and sports car racing, hopes to introduce top-line karters to GB4, and is looking forward to giving Harvey a run in the car.
“We can’t wait to see how Louis gets on during the taster test with us next month,” said Scorpio Head Mechanic Louis Kershaw. “The competition in the Ultimate Karting Championship was very strong, so it took a very good driver to win it, and Louis certainly looks like that! We’re excited to see what he can do in a single-seater with us.”
Kershaw was also encouraged by the attention the GB4 machine got while on display at the event, reporting that the series is getting plenty of attention in the karting paddock.
“It was great have Christian’s car right in the middle of the UKC paddock at Three Sisters. The circuit was rammed and we spoke to literally hundreds of people about the team, car and championship. There’s a lot of interest for next year and we’re hoping that will allow us to expand our GB4 operation in 2023.”
