Race for £20,000 GB4 shoot-out starts at Silverstone

23 March 2022

The BRSCC’s Avon Tyres National Formula Ford Championship season commenced at Silverstone last weekend, and saw excellent results for GB4 teams Kevin Mills Racing and Oldfield Motorsport, while teenage aces had their first opportunity to rack up points towards this year’s £20,000 GB4 shoot-out prize.

Kevin Mills Racing claimed a clean sweep of race wins courtesy of Jordan Dempsey, while Oldfield Motorsport also took home a trophy courtesy of second place in the first round of the season for Lucas Romanek.

Recently confirmed GB4 driver Tom Mills claimed his first silverware of the season with third place in the opening race during a guest outing for his family-run team.

Romanek was just one of the drivers on the entry list who could take part in the end of year shootout for a prize of £20,000 towards a campaign in GB4 next year.

Other teenagers impressing at Silverstone included 17-year-old American Colin Queen, who was fourth in the first race, just half a second behind Mills, and secured a podium with third in the second contest.

Fellow 17-year-old Ben Cochran was also impressive as he claimed seventh and fourth places, while Gabe Tesche is another driver touted to show well as the season progresses, and ended his weekend with a top-10 result.

Formula Ford drivers who will remain 19 years of age or under at the end of the year will be eligible for the GB4 shoot out, with the leading three teenage talents at the end of season selected for the competition, before one is chosen as the winner.

The next outing for the National Formula Ford Championship is at Knockhill on 10 April.

The £20,000 shoot out is part of GB4's class-leading prize package, which includes a £50,000 cash sum for the overall champion and a £4,000 prize pot in the George Russell Pole Position Cup.
