Fortec’s recently signed contender Jessica Edgar is quickly getting up to speed with the Tatuus F4-T014 car after several days of running in recent weeks.
The 16-year-old Cumbrian is making her first step in car racing in GB4 this year, and is enjoying a busy pre-season testing campaign so far, which continued with a full day of action at Snetterton today (Thursday).
“It’s really good, I’m enjoying it” she commented. “It’s a bit different to the karting I’m used to, but I’m getting used to it! I’ve had days at Donington, Silverstone and Oulton Park and now here at Snetterton so hopefully soon I’ll be fully on the pace.”
As she makes the step up out of karting, Edgar’s making the most of Fortec’s single-seater knowledge as she gets up to speed.
“It’s great to be working with a team like Fortec. They’ve helped me a lot with data and that’s been really useful as I can see whether I’m up or not compared to other drivers.”
As well as feedback from the team, she’s also able to count on an extensive family history of motorsport competitors, including her cousin Jonny, who continues in FIA Formula 3 this year and raced the Tatuus machine during his ADAC F4 title winning campaign in 2020.
“My cousin Jonny is on the Red Bull Junior programme and doing FIA F3. He was at my first test at Donington to help me as he knows quite a bit about this car. He also helps at home on the simulator so he’s really useful to learn from.”
As for her first year in single-seaters, Edgar is hoping success in GB4 can propel her to W Series in the future.
“I’ve got a few more days of testing lined up so hopefully we’ll get more good running. I’m aiming to get to W Series and we will see what happens after that. The cars we’re racing in GB4 are quite similar to those in W Series, so it will help me a lot this year.”
