The first eight teams who expect to field cars in MSV’s new GB4 Championship have been confirmed, with five of those potentially expanding their existing GB3 operations into the UK’s newest single-seater category.
Arden Motorsport, Elite Motorsport, Fortec Motorsports, Hillspeed and JHR Developments are intending to run GB4 teams alongside their GB3 entries, while Kevin Mills Racing, Oldfield Motorsport and Richardson Racing could join the MSV paddock for the first time. Several other teams are expected to join the grid for the inaugural season in 2022, with serious interest from potential entrants with backgrounds in single-seaters and sports cars.
Arden Motorsport expands into GB4 having joined GB3 in 2021, winning three races with Roman Bilinski, and taking podiums with Alex Connor and Frederick Lubin. Garry Horner’s team has also competed in the top echelons of single-seater competition over the past 20 years, including F3000, F2, GP3 and British F4.
Elite Motorsport is the leading team in the Ginetta Junior Championship, having won the title four times in the past five seasons. They have also claimed championships in the Ginetta GT4 Supercup and expanded into single-seaters for the first time in 2021, running three cars in GB3, taking podiums in its first season.
Fortec Motorsports has consistently operated at the front of every championship they’ve competed in, taking championships in Formula Renault 3.5, Formula Renault 2.0 and British F4. The team has been an ever present in GB3 and its predecessor BRDC British F3, with 21 wins and 60 podiums since 2016.
Hillspeed has raced in MSV’s leading single-seater championship since 2013, and has an impressive alumni list of drivers across over 50 years of competition. Across the last decade, the team has won championships in Ginetta Juniors with Seb Morris and Tom Ingram, while also powering Alice Powell to Formula Renault glory.
JHR Developments is one of the best-known teams in UK race paddocks, having raced in GB3, Formula Renault, Renault Clio Cup and the Porsche Carrera Cup GB among others, and recently claimed the British F4 title with Matthew Rees. Ever-presents in the BTCC paddock, JHR are no strangers to championship glory.
Kevin Mills Racing was established in 1998 and since then has built a reputation as one of the leading names in Formula Ford 1600. The team has won the Walter Hayes Trophy on five occasions while also enjoying success at the legendary Formula Ford Festival. Multiple Formula Ford titles add to the team’s prestige, with previous drivers including Dan Cammish and Scott Malvern.
Oldfield Motorsport celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2022, and is another key name from the UK Formula Ford 1600 scene. The team has won the Formula Ford Festival and has multiple titles in National and Northern Formula Ford 1600. Team founder James Oldfield meanwhile, has significant experience with F3, GP3, F4, EuroFormula Open and Formula Renault machinery.
Richardson Racing has considerable success in British F4, Porsche Carrera Cup GB and Ginetta Juniors over the last decade. The Corby-based team has taken 28 race wins in Ginetta Juniors in the last four years, and was instrumental in the career development of 2020 F4 Champion Luke Browning.
